ART & PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION 2010

for young people

For the 7th year running the Hertfordshire Building Preservation Trust is pleased to announce details of their competition to draw a picture or take a photograph of a listed building in Hertfordshire;


Entries may be from individuals or schools (schools may use their own school buildings, whether listed or not) and can show the whole building or a part of it.

 Photography Categories:
Photographs may be colour or black & white, digital or film

 Here are some photographic tips from our judge, Louise, to help you

Never shoot into the sun

* Keep your camera level with the building

* Make sure your finger is not over the lens or flash when holding the camera

* To avoid camera shake, hold your breath while you take your
picture

 

 Art Categories:
Art work may be in any 2D medium e.g. drawing, painting, collage.

  Free Art Sessions for Young People
The HBPT is running free drop-in art sessions - come along and create your entry for the competition.

* Sunday 6th June 12noon - 5.30pm , at Hertford Castle Fun Day

* Saturday 3rd July afternoon - The Priory, High Street, Ware, at the Ware Festival Town Fair

* Sunday 12th September,  11.30am - 2.30pm, Place House Hall, Ware

Schools may use their own school buildings, whether listed or not. Schools must
submit a minimum of 5 and maximum of 15 pieces of work together to qualify for these categories. Any age group or any combined ages can be entered together.
Entries will not be judged individually in the other categories.  Entry is limited to one set of photographs and / or one set of art works per school.

Rules

1. Entry is limited to one photograph and one art work per person, or one set of photographs and one set of art works per school, which should be the unaided work of the applicant. Work should be no larger than A3 and posted to the HBPT. Emailed files will not be accepted.

2. Work must be done from a public place or the owners’ permission sought. No responsibility can be accepted by the HBPT for people
trespassing.

3. All work should arrive at the above address by Monday 11th October 2010 together with the completed entry form.

4. Copyright of all entries remains with the artist/photographer but the HBPT reserves the right to use entries in their newsletter or website etc.

5. For an acknowledgement of receipt and/or a list of the winners please email us or enclose two stamped addressed envelopes marked respectively “RECEIPT” and “WINNERS”.

6. For entries to be returned please send a strong stamped, addressed envelope with the entry and it will be returned after the exhibition. Or you may collect from the Castle.

7. Louise O’Gorman of Photography by Louise will judge the photographic entries and Rod Lewis of Hertfordshire Graphics will judge the art entries, their decisions will be final. There can be no correspondence. Entering the competition implies acceptance of the rules.
