Experience, and design and conservation expertise
Russ has considerable experience in design and conservation matters
particularly in local government departments. He joined the London
County Council in 1961, and following eight years in the Department
of Architecture and Civic Design of the London and Greater London
Councils joined Hertfordshire County Council in 1969. From 1974
-1980 he worked in the Design, Landscape, Archaeology and
Conservation Unit at County Hall, becoming the Head of the Unit in
1980. Russ came out of retirement in 1996, helping to establish
BEAMS, and began working as the company’s Urban Design &
Conservation Officer. He provides conservation services to East
Herts Council and Welwyn Hatfield Council, and the County Council,
and has extensive experience as a Conservation Consultant appearing
at appeals and local hearings on behalf of Local Authorities. Russ
inaugurated and remains responsible for the administration of the
Hertfordshire Conservation Forum. He also convenes the Architects
Advisory Panel which was established by the Hertfordshire County
Council over fifty years ago, and assists with the organisation of
the Civic Trust Awards in the Eastern Region.
Published works: Russ assisted Bridget Cherry with the revised
edition of Pevsner’s ‘Buildings of England, Hertfordshire; JT Smith
with English Houses 1200 – 1800. The Hertfordshire Evidence, John
Gorst in Buildings Around Us, and has just completed the forward to
Peter Wilsher’s Live with history in your own home, promoted by City
& Country Properties Plc.

Experience and conservation expertise
Christian joined BEAMS in January 2005 and was previously Principal
Planning & Conservation Officer at Three Rivers District Council in
Hertfordshire. He has experience in Development Control and
Development Planning as well as in the role of Conservation Officer.
Chris’s work has included conservation policy, Buildings at Risk
surveys, building surveys, Conservation Area appraisals, locally
important buildings lists and Article 4 Directions. He has a
considerable appeals / inquiries background. Christian provides
conservation services to several district and borough councils in
Hertfordshire including Watford Borough Council, Three Rivers
District Council and Hertsmere Borough Council.

Robin joined BEAMS on a part time basis in March 2006. He has
eighteen years experience as a Conservation Officer for East Herts
Council in Hertfordshire where he has worked for over thirty years
starting as a draughtsman, then becoming a trainee in Local Plans, a
Development Control Planning Assistant, and a Principal
Planning/Urban Design Officer. Before joining East Herts Council in
1975, Robin worked at the London Borough of Barnet as a trainee
architect and surveyor. Robin works as part of the team providing
conservation advice to East Herts Council.

Experience and expertise
Before joining BEAMS in February 2006 Helen worked as a surveyor and
conservator of historic buildings and stone monuments. This
comprised conducting condition surveys, writing reports, recording
structures, photography and hands-on restoration (practical
conservation) work. Other projects have included the four year
restoration of St Paul’s Cathedral, London and also work at St
George’s Chapel, Windsor and the interior of the Chapel at Worcester
College, Oxford. In 1999 Helen also conducted a Buildings at Risk
survey of around 100 buildings at Sturminster Newton, on behalf of
North Dorset District Council. Since joining BEAMS Helen has
conducted buildings at risk surveys, house histories, building
surveys and site appraisals. She also provides a conservation
service to Broxbourne Borough Council. Helen also assists with the
organisation of the Hertfordshire Conservation Forum and Trust
events.

Anne Haworth

Experience and expertise
Anne worked for many years in display, design and marketing working
for Pentos Retailing and Boots the Chemist. Anne joined BEAMS in
January 2003 and her role includes office administration, IT,
payroll, events coordinator, and promotion and publicity. She
assists and supports both the Directors and members of the BEAMS
team. Anne has designed the Trust and BEAMS websites. She organises
the publication and distribution of the Trust biannual newsletter,
the Annual Report and information leaflets. She has also assisted in
the organisation of the Conservation + Design Show in 2004 and 2006.
Anne also runs Children’s Art Workshops and the Young People’s
Photographic / Art Competition each year to highlight the importance
of the historic environment to the next generation.

Stuart Bradley

Stuart has worked within the roles of administration / public
service / IT for many years. He joined BEAMS in 2007 to form part of
the office support team and assists with IT, customer service and
