Conservation + Design Show 2006
RIDING SCHOOL, HATFIELD HOUSE, HERTS,
12th, 13th & 14th MAY
This was the 6th Show to
be organised by the Hertfordshire Building Preservation Trust and the
Hertfordshire Association
of Architects, aiming to
promote good practice in the conservation and design of the built
environment.
The Show, held in a
marquee in front of Hatfield House, was opened at 1pm on Friday 12th
May by Lord Salisbury.
Over 400 visitors, from as
far away as Guernsey and Scotland, came to enjoy the seminars,
exhibitions, live demonstrations and art workshops for young people.

Seminars
The speakers, all experts
and award winners in the field of conservation and design, gave
interesting and
instructive seminars. Topics included repairs, designing alterations,
bats & birds, timber frame buildings, brickwork, VAT, rescuing ruins,
restoring church organs and keeping out of legal trouble.

Exhibitors
The 26 stands included
professionals, craftspeople, builders, suppliers of specialist materials
and amenity societies.

Live
demonstrations
Two blacksmiths
demonstrated their craft, a lime kiln was built from scratch and
displays of lime slaking were well attended. Leaded lights, stained
glass and furniture making proved very popular.

Workshops
Free
drop in sessions
for young people, using Hertfordshire’s listed buildings as inspiration,
provided visitors with over 50 works of art to view during the weekend.
